If the weather is good on Sunday, I was thinking of doing another ride into Chichibu territory and climbing up to Mitsumine at the Chichibu lake. Somehow that looked very nice on the map. I tried to plot the ride on the MyMap soft, include below and here as a link.
This would be a 120 km ride to Mitsumine, then app. 35 kms back to Seibu Chichibu station and from there back by train home (about 90 minutes back to Shinjuku).
Say we leave at Davids house at 8 AM, we would be at Chichibu after 85 km at 11 AM, have lunch there, be at Matsumine at 2 PM and then back at Chichibu Station for the train at 4 PM latest.
I realize that this is a long day, if we need to settle for a much shorter ride this is fine for me as well. depending on the availability of the members. We can do this one then another time.
Nice proposal, and I like the ride having gone there with you the other day. However, I should note that it was 96.5km from my house to Chichibu, so it's a bit longer than you state. When I tried out the MapMyRide software the other day, I noticed that it isn't very precise because of all the curves in the roads that it doesn't track.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, unfortunately I am out all day Saturday with clients and so I think I might be on family duty this Sunday. I'll be in touch if I get permission to leave for the day but I doubt it to be honest.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very exciting route Michael and I would love to join you on this one. Unfortunately, this weekend, I will be busy with my daughter who suddenly changed her mind and will be leaving next week to study in Belgium. This Sunday, the two of us are planning to do one more ride together...I'm getting emotional already...
ReplyDeleteI have a day off tomorrow and I will use this day to do the proposed Chichibu ride.
ReplyDeleteTo assemble a bigger group on Sunday, we then go for something shorter what we can still decide later.
As Jerome proposed by e-mail, let's meet at David's house on Sunday at 7.30 AM (revised from 7) and go for a trip that allows as to be home by 3 PM latest, app. 100 - 120 km of distance. By definition that would then be in the Tamagawa/Takao/Wada/Ome area.
Michael:
ReplyDeleteI am interested in a longer ride on Sunday, such as your Chichibu proposal, but I am afraid I won't know my schedule for certain until the weekend is here.
Best,
David
How was your reconnaissance ride yesterday, Michael? Weather was splendid...how did that lake look like, and how was the road from Chichibu Station all the way up to the lake? Very anxious to know!
ReplyDeleteTom
Weather forecast seems to now show clouds changing to rain on Sunday. Might still get in a decent ride ... but it might be better to try to get one in on Saturday. (I see that TCC is planning to meet at Takao at 9:30AM and do a loop around Sagamiko and then back over Wada. ... still not sure if work will interfere.
ReplyDeleteBest, David
David,
ReplyDeleteI cannot make it on Saturday (futsal tournament with my kids). I still plan to ride on sunday morning as forecasted. I need to be back home around 3pm to look after my kids while Tomoko is in Shanghai for the tennis world championship(unfortunately not as a player)
The wada toge route (back through itsukaichi is fine for me because if we have time left we can climb to tomin no mori for extra fun)

Ludwig and me rode out yesterday. However I caught a cold so we changed our plan. Instead of going to Mitsumine, we rode over Shomaru Toge to Karibazaka Toge and some others. Will post later the map. Was A nice trip in beautiful weather and splendid landscape. However, due to the cold my performance was not really good.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if I can ride on Sunday, if yes, then only for some hours.
I got in a good ride today -- Takao, Sagamiko, Rte 76 over to Doshimichi, then back in, but avoided most of the mess around Tsukui-ko by taking the same route as a few weeks ago when I did it on my return to Tokyo with Tim Hewitt.
ReplyDeleteIf it is not raining, I am happy to ride out with you (so far, Jerome and Michael), leaving my house at 7:30, but I may not go far.
Best,
David
The weather forecast doesn't look very promising for tomorrow. Let's nevertheless meet at 7.30 AM at David's house - unless it rains already.
ReplyDeleteI know a nice family restaurant at the Sagamiko just in case.
