Bike Lock Comparison -- Germany vs Japan

A comparison of a perfectly adequate lock for parking a bicycle in Tokyo, Japan (right) with a barely adequate lock for doing the same in Bremen, Germany (left):


This is the kind of comparison that is difficult to pick up in GDP statistics.

When I relocated from Berlin to Tokyo, I coincidentally brought exactly the model on the left. It took me more than a year to reassure myself that I can get away with a lock weighing almost two kilos less over here.
