OKUMUSASHI MADNESS THIS SATURDAY / Giro de Hotaka

This Saturday (rain or no rain) I will join the very disciplined riders of TCC on a re-run of a loop they have labeled the "Okumusashi Madness Loop" .
Departure is from the Higashi-Ome 7/11 (not too far from the Higashi-Ome Station, right on Nariki Kaido) at 9:30 so I propose to meet at Sekidobashi no later than 8:10 (of course you can take the train to Higashi-Ome if you prefer).

This ride has been conceived as a training for the GIRO DE HOTAKA, a 2-day event taking place on the 8th and 9th of November. For this Giro, M O B will unfortunately not be participating this year (coincides with Saiko Race) but I will definitely go again ! Applications for GIRO DE HOTAKA are still being accepted:

(David, It is OK to do only the Giro part of course...)

Hi Marek,

Hope to see you again this Saturday! You can either take the train to Higashi-Ome (see TCC - most of them are going by train, I believe) or meet me at Sekidobashi at 8:00...up to you.

Will you be going to Hotaka again this year?

Tom

I don't think I will make it on Saturday -- potential work plus Bicycle Film Festival in the afternoon ... see the post from several weeks back!
Hope to get in a ride on Sunday.

Best, David

Sorry guys,

Teaching season will start this weekend; from now on I will teach at the ICU every Saturday morning until the start of November, with one exception on Oct 3/4 (Shiobara race).

I will make a smaller loop after the job on Saturday, Sunday seems too risky.

Have Fun.

I will probably leave home early tomorrow for a ride
the objective is to leave around 6h30 to beat the heat but I might find myself waking up later. In such case I might try to join the crowd at Sekidobashi at 8h10 or Higashi Ome station nearby 7/11 at 9h30

It turns out I am going try to go out with the morning ride so I won't be watching Road to Roubaix at 1:30PM in Daikanyama. Hope to see you at Sekidobashi at 8:10.
The film festival info is at:

Marek, David, Jerome...hope to see you @ Sekidobashi later this morning. The TCC troupe will leave the 7/11 on Nariki Kaido by Higashi-Ome at 9:30. If we leave Sekidobashi at 8:10 that should give us sufficient time to join them. I'm excited about this ride as I have never ventured that deep into Saitama. Return to Higashi-Ome is scheduled by 16:30.

Tom:
Thanks for tying us in to the ride yesterday.
Well, hope Jerome had a good soak in the river at Nariki ...
Next time I go into new territory, I'm taking along a map! David J., Juliane and I found Rte 61, turned off Rte 299, then failed to follow the instructions we had gotten and failed to bear to the LEFT. In any event, we did a nice climb that brought us to the top of the ridge ... about 4-5 km SE of where the group probably climbed to the "green line." We had te-uchi soba and schmoozed with a group of retired folks who had just finished hiking and tending their weekend garden and were enjoying soba and ume shu. After sharing a glass of ume shu amongst the 3 of us, we decided it was time to aim for home. But I was persuaded that it would be nice to head SE along the road near the top of the ridge. It was beautiful, ... some up and down, but we ended up coming off the ridge to the NE, and riding down to someplace north of Hidaka. We hit the suburban sprawl of Saitama and finally hopped a train from Hidaka to Tachikawa and said our farewells. I had an uneventful ride home from Hidaka.
Jerome -- Hope you had a good day after we parted ways. Michael -- hope you had a good afternoon ride.
Best,
David L.

After teaching at the ICU I rode in direction Otarumi along the Tamagawa and promptly met Marek on his bike riding home. He also tried Otarumi on Saturday. I tried to convince him to do it one more time but couldn't. I made in up in a little bit more than 20 min, I think it should be better for the forthcoming Shuzenji race next weekend, but OK. My weight is finally down to 94 - 95 kg, that should also help a little bit.
Rode back, but it became dark when I reached the Keio Keirin track and I couldn't go very fast thereafter. Made it home, luckily before the big rain started in the evening. But went out with the bike and the family for dinner in Jiyugaoka and got completely soaked on the way home.

As my daughter was figure skating and my son had soccer training on Sunday morning, I had time for a short ride. Only up to Y-Park, buying some stuff and back.

I already burned my two original Cervelo tires, one in a crash with Tom and Nishibe, the other one is now down to the threads.

Finished the day playing table tennis with my son in Shibuya.

Still thinking of commuting to work on the bike tomorrow. I am really scared of Shuzenji.

Anyway, I met Toni Lovrec this week, he is representing a supplier for power tools (Festool) we are importing and selling in Japan. They sell a lot of stuff for paintworks and polishing and he has good contacts with Taiwanese frame makers, so sometimes he gets some carbon frames for free. Seems that the maker is also working for Specialized.

Anyway, he has the perfect motto for balancing riding and family life which we might want to adopt as Positivo Espresso motto:

"To ask for forgiveness later is easier than to ask for permission before."

How was the film festival?

...down to 94 already, keeping working at it Michael, you can do it (= go under 90)!

Looking forward to our October races together. I've been working with the TCC people (Travis, Thomas & Sergey) on my pacesetting skills lately (they are much better than my hillclimbing ones, that's for sure!) so I can lead you to a top finish position and....stardom!
