Update
Just to help clarify, there are three upcoming Positivo Espresso rides proposed.
Tuesday 30th Dec 2008, Ludwig and mob are going to do a full day ride, starting time between 8 and 9 AM at Fuchu bridge on the Tamagawa. The destination is not decided yet, details will follow today.
Wednesday 31st Dec 2008, proposed by David with Tom and James keen to join. Details to follow in comments or as an update in this post.
Friday 2nd January 2009, Ekiden Ride, David, Michael, Ludwig and James so far. Details can be found below.

For December 31, I am flexible, as long as I am back by mid-afternoon. Here is one idea:
Tokyo forecast is for a low of 1 degree and high of 10. So I suggest we stay at a relatively low elevation -- no Yanagisawa Pass, Tomin no Mori or Matsuhime; Not even Shiraishi Pass in Chichibu, given the ice/snow reported by Tom.
How about heading out over Takao/Otarumi and then riding over the hills south of Sagami-ko (Charles' "secret route" off of 412) out to Rte 76, then we can decide if we want to go further toward Suzugane Pass, or just take Rte 76 over to Doshi (and beyond?) or turn down Doshi for head home (either via the "David twist" route along Tsukui-ko, or to Hon Atsugi and the train, or back to the western approach to Wada if the weather is warmer than expected by midday and we have some energy left ... or just back over Otarumi to Takao. There is plenty of valuable optionality for side trips, or to make the trip shorter or longer, and we can do the entire ride below 500 meters elevation .... or climb higher, toward Suzugane (which I have never seen), as the weather and time permit?

Will take a rest tomorrow and join David on "Charles secret route (combinable with Suzugane!!) on the 31st. See you @ 8:20!!
