Not just a moment of silence, but an entire neutralized stage, and then Leopard Trek (team of) and Tyler Farrar (best friend of) the Wouter Weylandt withdrawing from the race.

I have not seen any eyewitness report or heard any explanation of what caused him to crash, and the reports were that it happened on one of the easier sections near the end of the descent, so there is no rider protest about a dangerous course etc.

Let's be careful out there, especially with other riders.

One report said that another rider witnessed the crash. He said that Weylandt either clipped a pedal on the ground or his handlebar on a low wall which high-sided him across the road into another low wall.

Just terrible however it happened. He was just 26 and about to become a father in a few months time.
