It's the fastest track ever, say cyclists after first test run at Velodrome Olympics

Looks great. I just hope someone can give the Brits a run for their money at the Velodrome in 2012. Seems like in Beijing, they got 2/3 of their nation's entire gold medal count in track cycling events (with the rest in events that involve either rowing or sailing a boat). Just boats and bikes.

This is the Summer Olympics' version of the problem that shows up at the Winter games in "sports" like short track speed skating, roller derby, demolition snow boarding and other recent additions.

Either other nations need to get serious about these obscure events, or the IOC needs to add a lot more permutations of other sports.

To start, instead of just a "road" event and a "time trial" event, we might add different distances -- 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 km time trials, and 50, 100 and 200 km road races? And we could add team events -- Enduros, set distance relays, and TTT's? And maybe a hill climb or two, or three? (The hill climb would need to wait for a venue with hills, I guess).
